Who is The Greatest Fictional President?

It's that time again. On January 20th, the United States will swear in our 45rd Commander in Chief. And regardless of how you feel about He Who Shall Not Be Releasing His Tax Returns, it is clear that our next President is bridging the gap between politician and pop culture figure like none before him. Even Reagan.

That is why we at Mad Bracket Status (the finest pop culture bracket purveyors in all the land) have chose to take this time to look back at some of popular cultures most interesting Presidents. Some have been rough and tumble action heroes. Some have been kind and thoughtful statesmen. Some have piloted giant robots. In fact, four out of the 16 we chose have piloted a giant robot. That's one fourth. What?! Either way, somewhere among the bracket lies the winner who will be named THE Fictional President.

We chose Presidents from all sides of the pop culture aisle. Movies, TV Shows, Comics, and Video Games all got at least one President in contention. All of the competitors were chosen completely by the MBS crew. We apologize if some of your favorites didn't make it. Looking at your fans of the hit ABC drama Scandal. We just didn't have the space. They were seeded by alphabetical order and the first round of match ups is as follows.

Benjamin Asher (Olympus Has Fallen) vs Michael Wilson (Metal Wolf Chaos)
Jed Bartlett (The West Wing) vs Thomas Whitmore (Independence Day)
Tom Beck (Deep Impact) vs Francis Underwood (House of Cards)
Lord Business (The Lego Movie) vs James Sawyer (White House Down)
Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho (Idiocracy) vs David Palmer (24)
Matthew Ellis (Iron Man 3) vs Nixon's Head (Futurama)
Mays Gilliam (Head of State) vs Selena Meyer (Veep)
Lex Luthor (DC Comics) vs James Marshall (Air Force One)

So, elephant in the room: either Jed Bartlett or Thomas Whitmore will be eliminated in the first round. They were both heavy favorites for the overall winner. That's just the way the bracket crumbles.

Here is where you come in. Vote on the first round on our polling page. We encourage you to share the voting with friends who have an opinion on any on fictional or non fictional politics. The results of the voting will be announced on the next Mad Bracket Status show, which we stream live on our Facebook page. You can check out the whole bracket on our Challonge page
